CONDITIONS to CONNECT to WASTEWATER SYSTEM
See Disclaimer
Gila County Planning and Zoning will not grant a building permit without first receiving approved sewer connection plans from Strawberry Hollow Wastewater Improvement District, referred to herein as "SHWID".
  1. Plans approved by SHWID, for construction of the Sewer Connection between the clean out at the home and the sewer main should accompany the Building Permit Plans submitted to Gila County Planning and Zoning.
  2. The sewer connection plans must contain horizontal as well as vertical drawings showing elevations of the proposed connection.
  3. Construction inspection by SHWID must occur during the construction period. A checklist of inspection criteria is available upon request.
  4. It is recommended that the wastewater system operator connect the home to the system. However, it is within the rights of the property owner to select a different licensed contractor other than the system operator.
  5. If the elevation of the proposed connection will not allow a gravity flow connection, then the use of an Orenco effluent system will be required.
The public report states that grinder pumps are required on Lots: 1, 2, 18, 39, 40, 41. Grinder pumps are known to have problems with overflowing due to power outages, and problems with odors at the inlet to the gravity sewer system, (which are evident around the manholes). For these reasons, grinder pumps will not be provided to the purchasers of the lots specified above. Since a pretreatment tank with an effluent pump should not create either of the above problems, an Orenco Effluent system, in place of a grinder pump, is included in the price of the above referenced lots. In any event, the cost for installation and inspection will be born by the property owner.
SHWID will inspect the installation of the sewer between the home and the connection in the street. This inspection will be required prior to Gila County granting an occupancy permit.
If, on any of the lots not listed above, the sewer connection submitted by the property owner creates a negative flow to the gravity sewer system in the street, an Orenco Effluent Sewer pretreatment system will be required at the owner's expense.

  1. An inspection fee will be charged to the property owner at the time of submission of the sewer connection drawings. This fee includes drawing review and construction inspection as well as a static water pressure test of the sewer connection line.
  2. In order to keep fees as low as possible for most property owners, a higher fee will be charged only in the event that an Orenco effluent system is required
Gila County Planning and Zoning will not grant a Certificate of Occupancy without first receiving written approval from SHWID after completion of sewer connection.
